Seat in the UN Security Council
In my personal opinion, there is no other country more deserving to be on the Council other than India. The present council members are China, USA, Russia, UK and France. As in the views of Prime Minister Singh the council reflects the world of 1940’s and does not do justice to the current economic and political situation.This is true to a great extent, the formation of the UN security council was in a world recovering from two major wars, and the nations which turned out as victors made place for themselves in the council.
The current world scenario requires admittance of India into the security council namely because India stands like a pillar of strength represented by its democratic system in an unstable Asian environment.
The largest democracy on the planet, Independence through non violence, economic growth. Who deserves to be on the security council more than India? Link

India does deserve a seat in the Security Council,but the next thing we know is that we have Pakistan gunning for a seat and claiming one pretty soon.
The UN Security Council is a joke as of now, it was formulated as a symbol of world peace where consensus decisions were respected. The United States has flouted all UN mandates and regulations openly so i believe a UN Security council berth will make no difference in the long run.
A security council will make a difference in the long run. India will have a legit reason to develop arms while maintaining that she's doing so for "world peace"... just like the other security council nations do.

What will change if we are on the Sec. Council??? Do you really think we are democratic in nature and will make an impact in global political, social and economic agenda. we just have issues yes so does the other countries but certains issues top the list godhra riots were we burn people and farmers in regions of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh committ suicide dues to pathetic state of land reforms, the north east India is literally burning up. but these internal issues must not stop us from going forwarding and accquiring a seat in the Sec. council which is anyways dormant.I am of the strong opinion that U.N is a mere puppet in the hands of the G8 countries.Take Rawanda, Somalia, Afghanistan, Isreal..did anyone hear any joint coalition opinions on any of the issues in the above countries other than the standard "we condemn this..." so were is all is talk heading...??? we are back to square one all the time.
